New Board Member Welcomed

Hospice of Chesterfield County is pleased to welcome Jane Johnson to its board of directors.   Johnson was elected to her first three-year term as a board member at the agency’s annual meeting on June 23. Johnson resides in Jefferson with her husband, Dwight.  The Johnsons have one daughter, Megan J. Harris.  A graduate of Winthrop University,  Johnson earned a Master’s Degree from the University of South Carolina.     She is employed as a special education teacher at Jefferson Elementary.  She is a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church where she serves on the Church Council and as an adult class Sunday School teacher.  She is a member of the Jefferson Board of Zoning Appeals. We Honor Veterans

It may surprise many people to learn that 25% of those who die every year in the U.S. are Veterans. To help provide care and support that reflect the important contributions made by these men and women, Hospice of Chesterfield County has become a national partner of We Honor Veterans, a pioneering campaign developed by National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Hospice Holds “Camp Sunshine” For Bereaved Children

In an effort to help brighten the lives of children who have recently lost a loved one, Hospice of Chesterfield County held its fourteenth annual bereavement camp, Camp Sunshine, on August 4.  Children, ages 5-12, attended the one-day camp held at the Chesterfield YMCA. The camp was designed to help children cope with the recent loss of a family member.  The children in attendance were able to express their grief through a variety of activities, including face painting and swimming.  They gave tribute to their loved ones through art, enjoyed relaxation techniques and other therapeutic play activities led by play therapist, Dawn White.    The children also learned to cope with their grief in a constructive manner. “What a great day...

Beverly Cranford, Robert DeFee and Darlene Lovelace were elected to three-year terms as board members at the agency’s annual meeting on June 25. Cranford and her husband, Dewayne, reside in Chesterfield. She is a graduated of Winthrop University and the University of South Carolina. She is currently employed as a teacher at Edwards Elementary School in Chesterfield.
