Residents Complete Hospice Training

Seven area residents recently completed Hospice of Chesterfield County’s volunteer training program.  The 15-hour course was held July 12 – 20 at Hospice of Chesterfield County’s office in Chesterfield.     Those completing the course include: Bonnie Jean Black and Carolyn F. Russell of Cheraw, Tammy Griffin of Chesterfield, Alice Hunter of Pageland, Joe Martin McDaniel of Patrick, Verlinda J. Bass of Bennettsville and Alice V. Z. Harrison of Morven.  Hospice of Chesterfield County now has 95 active direct patient care volunteers that can serve terminally ill patients and families.   “We are very fortunate to have such a diverse group of volunteers willing to help our patients and families in Chesterfield and Marlboro counties.  These volunteers will brighten the lives of...

Hospice Holds “Camp Sunshine” For Area Bereaved Children

In an effort to help brighten the lives of Chesterfield and Marlboro County children who have recently lost a loved one, Hospice of Chesterfield County held its 12th annual bereavement camp for children, Camp Sunshine, on July 31. Children, ages 5-12 from throughout the area, attended the one-day camp held at the Chesterfield Family YMCA. The camp was designed to help children cope with the recent loss of a family member. The children in attendance were able to express their grief through a variety of activities. The children gave tribute to their loved ones through art and also wrote letters to their loved one. The letters were attached to balloons and sent heavenward at the conclusion of the camp. “It...
